I've been reading the new Eberron line of D&D novels. I like them. They are D&D but have sort of a pulp feel to them. They are different then Forgotten Relms or Dragonlance. My favorite so far is the Orb of Xoriat by Edward Bolme.

I'm also about a quater of the way thru Insomnia by Stephen King. Its starting kinda slow but I'm hoping it gets better.

Eragon (1st book of the Inheritence Trilogy) is kinda cool. It reads like a 15-year-old trying to sound like Tolkein/D&D, but it's still pretty cool. And it's signed to be a movie for next year...

So after reading more of Gaiman's stuff, I come to find out that he blends the fictional world with the real world. He'll break time barriers too. It's fun to read, and the elements blend so well. I recently read a short story he did called "A Study of Emerald." It's probably my favorite of his short stories, because of 2 reasons. It blends Lovecraft and Doyle. If he could get the rights to Sherlock Holmes, he'd have some great success with the New New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Think of the possibilities!!! Anyway, have a read. It'll only take 20-30 minutes of your time.

Hey, I saw the BBC production of Neverwhere (it's like a 6-episode series, i think). It was pretty cool. Very different.

I finished reading Colorado Kid. It was good. If you aren't a King fan, you may not like it. It's only 80 something pages and it's a quick read. It's a part of a collection called Hard Case Crime. The Colorado Kid was $6. What's cool is that you can be a 'member' and they will send you 2 books a month for the price of one.

I've started reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I read it Sunday nights on my breaks at Hastings. It's, so far, pretty interesting. Story is of a man who encounters an injured girl in the streets of London. Since that point he loses his existence and exists in this "Neverwhere". An alternate world of sorts. I was looking for American Gods, but they didn't have a copy of it, so I decided to read Neverwhere. Neil Gaiman is the writer of the Sandman comics, if you didn't know.

Don't worry Edge. I'm reading WOT at home. :P

You sound like Gabie. Everytime we go out to rent a movie, I try to rent some classics I grew up with, or movies that I think are great, and she falls asleep within the first 30 minutes. It sucks. If Toby fells the way I do, he'd be crying himself to sleep because he's lonely and nobody likes him. Ok. Not really. It's frustating I guess, but that's it. An eye roller at most. That's the way I feel when she does that. It's not her fault. She's tired. It's hard to watch a movie that late after working all day.

Suggestions?
Read out loud. Take turns reading so many paragraphs.
Don't read in bed. Sit up while you read.
Slap each other in the face every 2 minutes.

Poor Tobby, we have been trying to read the book together and me being the old fogie (sp?) I am I try to go to bed early and be asleep by 10:30-11. He doesn't get tired until 11 or later and we always start reading at 10:30 or 11 and I fall asleep every time....I feel badly, because I actually like the parts we hve read but it is taking forever to read it...I think we are on chaper 5? so sad...maybe it will rain all weekend (so I don't have to do yard work!) and we can read :)

There seems to have been a plague of mediocre movies coming out lately. I'm reallylooking forward to HGTTG.

In preparation for the movie, I picked up "The Increasingly Inaccurately Named Hitchiker's Trilogy". It's been a loooong time since I read the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and never read the others.

I have never read a Dean Koontz book in my life till about a couple of months ago. THey had a excerpt of Odd Thomas in a Maxim magazine and it pulled me in. I bought a copy and read it.

It was a really good book. It could make for a really good series (of books), but Koontz isn't one for series I guess. I suggest you all grab a copy and read it. It's a fast read. Not your typical Jordan, Goodkind, or King length of book. His latest "not counting his take on Frankenstein" is Life Expectancy. I'm looking forward to reading this one too once I finish Wizard & Glass.

I'm halfway through the 5th Harry Potter book and I have to say that if you enjoyed the movies, the books are phenomenal. I realize I was a little late in discovering that on my own, but better late than never.

My only regret is that I've enjoyed 5 books back to back and now I'm actually going to have to wait for the next. :FROWN:
